Look into Your Heart

This piece was donated to The Friendship Center in Santa Barbara, CA, for its upcoming 13th Annual "Festival of the Hearts" fundraiser.  For this sculpture, I embellished a papier-mâché heart, hollowed it out, inserted a cut mirror in it, and adorned it with copper nails, turquoise beads and paint.  It is hanging beneath a copper painted tree branch covered with copper wiring and beads, with scraps of chiffon, ribbons, and old scarves cascading down the branch with the words “Look into Your Heart” written on the front piece of fabric.

Each year, local artists and celebrities create unique and stunning art pieces out of plain brown papier-mâché hearts, which are then sold at the event’s silent auction. Jeff Bridges does a heart every year and is always the first in. Other "heart artists" in recent years have been Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Barnaby Conrad, Steven Gilbar, and Tony Askew.  I am honored to be one of the artists participating in this event.
