Artist Comments

When I first heard about ART from the Ashes after the horrendous 2009 Jesusita fire in the hills of Santa Barbara,  I immediately knew that I wanted to be involved. What a great opportunity for healing!  How amazing to give a fire-damaged object new life within my art and include a positive message, as well!  My piece “Dancing in the Rain” does all of that and more for me.  It reminded me about something I sometimes lose sight of, that no matter what challenges you encounter in your life, a positive attitude will always get you to the other side with flying colors.

Materials Used:  Melted metal, rusted and melted coils, copper wire, cut sheets of copper, crystal beads, paint, paper, wood, and metal letters, mounted on painted stretched canvas.

About ART from the ashes:

Formed in 2007, ART from the ashes is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose goal is to provide a cathartic avenue to communities affected by wildfire by transfiguring fire site debris into beautiful works of art. Through a network of volunteers and artists, artwork is crafted from salvaged materials and shown in charity exhibition. By engaging the talent of independent artists to bring these exhibitions to life, ART from the ashes also serves as a portal for artistic expression and exploration.  For more information, go to my links page for a link to their website.
